It’s Exciting

I’m so excited to see what 2010 has in store for all of us. Can you believe that it is December 31st? I feel as though this year has flown by for me. I never would have dreamed last January that so many exciting things would have taken place in my life.

Here’s a few of them:

March 2009 – I started this website and blog.

May 2009 – My oldest daughter graduated from high school

June 2009 – My son was finally potty trained

June 2009 – We got through tornado season without me losing my mind

July 2009 – We managed to go on a family vacation which is no easy feat with seven kids

August 2009 – I realized I had a college student, a high school student, a middle school student, two elementary school students, a preschooler, and a toddler all at one time! (That was actually a scary revelation.)

October 2009 – Had six kids who got the Swine Flu and recovered, thank the Lord.

November 2009 – Got to go to Dallas with Frito-Lay.

November 2009 – Ran a 5K

December 2009 – Managed to get Christmas done with minimal stress.

Sure, there were lots of other exciting things that happened along the way, but these were some that stuck out for me as I was writing this post.

One thing that makes me really excited is to realize how quickly things can change from one year to the next. Like I said in my video post last week, you can be in an entirely different place next year. In fact, someone emailed me after that post and asked if I’d put up a one year to the other picture side by side for them to see. I thought it was a great question, so here are the pictures from one Christmas to the next.

Christmas Bow

Isn’t it neat to see what a difference a year can make in our lives? I never would have dreamed at that fat Christmas that I’d have run a 5K and lost so much weight in a year, but I did. If you had asked me what I wanted to accomplish that next year, losing weight would have been on my list, but I don’t think I would have believed I would actually do it.

As you approach 2010, I hope that you are filled with excitement and anticipation over what life has to offer you. Perhaps you will be surprised to see what changes will come into your life over the next year. And perhaps you will have your own story in pictures to tell.

Is there something in particular that you are looking forward to in 2010?  Diane

what a difference a year made to your life…fantastic.

2010 will be the first year my resolution is not to lose weight…and have done that. Now its to maintain and to enjoy each and every healthy day I have, never to take my health for granted.
Love, laugh so often my cheeks will hurt.
    I’m going to have a positive year…

That is an awesome picture comparison. I have been trying to list 10 accomplishments for 2009. I think I can do it month by month and actually remember something I have accomplished. When you look back at the whole picture you lose the details. But when you put a marker of where you are in 2009 up you can begin to see all kinds of possibilities for 2010. Maybe next year the picture will be a great physical comparison and with a list of accomplishments.

A great year (apart from swine flu).

I have a high schooler, a middle schooler, and one in elementary. I dream (literally) of having a baby, but at 43, that’s not such a great plan. Struggling Not. To. Baby. the 7 year old!

Also, there are professional and personal goals I have that I would like to achieve. Somehow focusing on my health helps me in every area of my life.

I think you should be proud of what you have accomplished this past year. That list of kids in grades is overwhelming to me – I don’t know how in the world you do it!

My goals are to stay committed to improving my health, work hard at my fitness goals and get caught up on my scrapbooks!!!

I’m amazed at how things really can change year by year. A few years ago I wouldn’t have thought it possible to make the changes I have in 2009. It is exciting to see what 2010 has in store.

I hope you and your family have a wonderful celebration and great 2010.

I would like to get a new job, find a relationship that is good for me, and of course – lose my weight!

Seeing those two pictures next to each other is very encouraging. I’m hoping to share the same comparison for me a year from now. 🙂

    great post

I smiled at the kid counting. My kids are all 4 years apart. For some reason, just a couple days ago, middle child said that if I had more kids, and continued with the 4 year thing, this year we would have a 2nd grader and another new baby. She was sort of missing the 2nd grader and the new baby. It made me very tired just to think of it. . .

What a great year! I am still in awe of your “momness”. I have 2 and I struggle sometimes!

This year…I am stoked for! I plan on bringing it all together. No more wishing or hoping. It’s all about the DOING this year! Finally getting to goal, figuring out how to manage emotional and mindless eating and taking my fitness to a new level!

Happy New Year to you and your fantastic family, Diane!

    Hi Diane!

I’m looking forward to finally freeing myself from the yoke of self-induced poor health. To finally reaching my potential when it comes to good health. To not worrying about my heart for the first time in almost 20 years. To just living life, instead of worrying about it ending prematurely!

Thanks for all that you have done for me these past few months, and I hope 2010 is your best year ever, sweetie!

The one thing that I really want to do this year (besides lose 100lbs) is to run a 5K but I’ve go to be honest in saying that there isn’t a thing inside of me right now that is telling me that it is even a remote possibility but I guess I am the only one who can prove ME wrong right? lol

August 2009 sounds scary, indeed! Diane, this is too funny – not only do I own that cookbook (diets and I go waaay back), but I’ve been putting my post for tomorrow together for a few days now and I’ve included Christmas pictures of myself taken a year apart. Cue Twilight Zone music…

I’m looking forward to 2010 being a great year for all of us in blogland!

Wow, I actually don’t mind tornado season! We’re smack in the middle of Tornado Alley and we see our fair share of thunderstorms, hail, and tornadoes. They don’t bother me much!

    Happy New Year!

  19. Lori says:

I always enjoy reading your blog, and you have been such an inspiration to me. 🙂 I hope you have a blessed 2010! I have a goal of running a 5K and also running a half-marathon next year. I also want to not be so stressed about eating and my weight loss!

  20. Taryl says:

FYI, your comment form keeps freaking out on me and having issues with my feed 🙂

You had a VERY busy year, Diane! It makes me tired just looking at it.

As for me, next year I have lots of goals (notably NOT resolutions) that I am committed to achieving. As I discussed on my recent blog I have a cumulative weight loss goal for the year of around 23 pounds, so that we can change our insurance. We’d also like to have another baby (ours are quite close in age, so I imagine to have kids in every grade group I’d have to have about a dozen!) and I am personally working on improving my home management and time management.

2009 was a great year for us, and I couldn’t be happier, even with some of the challenges we had. Hopefully 2010 will be as good!

  21. Stacy says:

What an amazing comparison from one year to the next. I am starting a weight loss journey to lost 35 pounds. I want to look back at 2010 and feel the accomplishments of a healthy life style.

I’m looking forward to reaching my weight goal of 165#, and also to my knee healing.
